The Britishers took control over the administration of Myanmar after three Anglo-Burmese Wars which were fought during the 19th century. After these wars, Myanmar became a British colony. Myanmar was declared a democratic nation and it got its independence in 1948 after a series of revolutionary activities. But democracy could not be enjoyed by the citizens for a long time as it became a military dictatorship in 1962 under the Burma Socialist Programme Party which followed coup d etat( forced removal of the existing government using violence).
